A small robot that drives through factories and checks for heat, gas and corrosion in the places people don’t inspect often enough.
- It runs on a Raspberry Pi 4 and an ESP32, with a thermal camera, gas sensors for methane, ammonia, CO₂ and VOCs, ultrasonic sensors for getting around, and a live dashboard with SMS alerts.
- I started by spending my December 2024 internship at Aether Breweries watching how inspections actually happen, then came back a year later with the robot to pilot it there.
- It has since been tested at ten sites, including two thermal power plants, a distillery, a footwear factory and a government hospital. It found hotspots 7 to 12°C above normal and humidity pockets that led to changes in ventilation.
- After the pilot, Jindal India Power approved buying four more robots. Aether Breweries backed the next phase with a $27K technology development grant.
- The paper on it won Best Paper and runner-up for Best Presentation at the Global Confluence Review conference, and has been accepted by NHSJS Reports.
“He was transparent about the robot’s current capabilities, receptive to practical feedback, and thoughtful in translating real-world constraints into iterative design improvements.”Aether Breweries, after the pilot at their plant
